Leader Accessories Travel Trailer RV Cover Windproof Extra Thick Upgraded 5 Layers Camper Cover with Adhesive Repair Patches

October 20, 2024

After a winter with some of the worst wind ever, I was simply amazed at how well this cover survived. There was some minor damage to the cover fabric below the major straps from prolonged “ballooning” of the fabric rubbing it against the straps. It wore through in one place but never ripped further apart despite horrendous winds lasting three or four days and multiple such wind events. I would advise using some of the generous amount of repair fabric provided to add an extra layer of padding to those two large straps that completely cross the roof. Surprised that the simple gutter guard padding and “sock” to keep it in place worked great. My homemade ones always seemed to work their way off but these did not. All in all, I am extremely impressed with this cover and will upgrade it to 5 stars.

Purchased: 27-30 ft. cover. This will be our 4th camper cover over the past 6 years and two different campers. The first two covers were from a well known manufacturer in business since the 1950’s. Being a newbie to RV covers I started with a mid-range priced one that lasted only 1 year. Purchased a top line cover from same company and it lasted 2 years as did a third cover. We get high, sustained winds in Colorado often lasting two days or more which reek havoc on these covers – even those purporting to be “wind resistant” which is laughable as their warranty terms exclude wind damage. This cover touts the same as being “windproof” but with the same warranty disclaimer.
The Good:
Overall, this appears to be a nice cover for the price with many unexpected extras thrown in such as wheel covers, additional straps, gutter extension padding and nice Velcro retaining straps for the gutter guard pockets. The zippers are heavy duty and work well and there are Velcro straps at the bottom of the zippers that keep the wind from opening them. Nice features. Fabric is multi-layer and as heavy as one of the previous top line covers. Durability is yet to be determined so it was not rated at this time.
The Not-So-Good
The cover comes vacuum compacted to the point that it is one big, dense wad of material. (Similar to men doing laundry then leaving it in the washer for days before removing it. ) Your instructions make it seem as if you can toss it on the roof and simply unroll it. Not so. In fact if you try like I did, you will wind up with a big pile that gets bigger and bigger as you search for the “Front” and “Back” tags explained in the directions. Find a relatively clean surface like a driveway and pry this mass apart first to find the elusive tags then roll it up so you can more easily maneuver it atop the RV. Expect some perplexity as the directions state to start at the front and work back while the “BACK TAG” says to start there. Personally, I think it matters not which end you start with. The rear does allow you to anchor the elastic stays under the bumper to keep that end in place as you drag/pull toward the front end.
FINAL ASIDE:
For the asking price I consider it a good deal and would recommend the cover. I’m not expecting it to last forever as the wind will always be my nemesis. Lastly, I get a chuckle over all these cover companies showing their covers fitting tight as a glove on campers with completely flat roofs! No matter how determined I am are to get a nice fit, mine eventually looks like I covered it with a huge trash bag.

This seller went above and beyond. Firstly, it is a quality 5 layer RV cover that was priced intelligently. I had some problems, namely that the four under-RV straps were not included. I contacted them and the rep (Cindy) was very polite, apologetic and professional. She offered to ship new straps. The next day however, the cover blew off in a unexpected windstorm and damaged a zipper. It blew off because of the lack of bottom straps, I had already installed the cover and didn’t want to take it off. I contacted Cindy at Leader again, and she again was immediately responsive, offering to ship me a new cover. I arrived within days, and it had all the straps. I installed it, and it is presently doing a fine job in the snow.

This item is a bit large for our 24′ Travel trailer, as expected. It does billow at the front in strong winds but holds on nicely. The first winter it was a real challenge to apply but going into our 4th winter season we have it down pat. We always cover any sharpe protrusions beforehand. Be sre to pick a day that isn’t windy! Our “secret” is to always fold the cover up the same way when taking it off in the spring, then stick a note on it to remind us where the front is. This allows us to unroll and unfold from the rooftop with a second person at the base to do the straightening. Various zippers, straps and Velcro hold everything down nicely. The zipper for the door area is very handy to check inside for critters during the long winter months. It is crucial to remove or pad any sharp areas. We are pleased with the durability for the price and are hoping to get 5 winters out of it before replacing.
